Trip Itinerary
June 15, Day 1: Depart from USA. Arrival next day.
June 16, Day 2: Arrival. Visit the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Wall where the body of St. Paul is buried. It is the 2nd largest basilica in Rome and the 5th in the world. GO THROUGH THE HOLY DOORS. Check in the hotel and rest for a few hours, if time permits. In the afternoon, we will be visiting St. Mary Major, the main Basilica dedicated to Mary in Rome. We will see the remains of Jesus' manger, the tomb of Bernini, the remains of St. Matthew the Evangelist, the tomb of St. Jerome, and the oldest icon in the world of the Virgin Mary painted by St. Luke: the famous Salus Populi Romani. GO THROUGH THE HOLY DOORS. We may immerse ourselves in the local culture by attending an Italian mass at St. Mary Major as well. Casual dress. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
June 17, Day 3: Start the day around 9:30 am, by visiting the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel (the Pope's private chapel) and St. Peter's in the Vatican, the largest Basilica in the world. GO THROUGH THE HOLY DOORS. Then proceed to St. John Lateran, the first Basilica ever to be built in the Roman Empire and the Cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. GO THROUGH THE HOLY DOORS. Long pants, capris, or skirts below the knee will be required and shoulders covered. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
June 18, Day 4: We will have an early start as our private bus leaves around 7:00 am to the Vatican to experience the 10:00 am Audience with the Pope. We will see the Pope very closely; sometimes we even shake his hand. There will be time for lunch in the Vatican area. After lunch, tour the Colosseum from the outside, the symbol of the city of Rome; a great building that has been standing since 80 A.D. Then off to the Spanish Steps known for the area where the Romans gathered to meet followed by a walk to the Trevi Fountain. We will continue on from there to the Pantheon, the oldest functional building in the world. We will conclude by visiting the great artistic Piazza Navona. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
June 19, Day 5: En route to Florence stop in Assisi. See the tombs of St. Francis and St. Clare; enjoy a peaceful walk on the streets of Assisi. Dinner in Tuscany. Overnight in Florence.
June 20, Day 6: Tour of Florence in the region of Tuscany. Tour of the Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizzi, Michelangelo's masterpiece, The David, Flea Market, Duomo (Cathedral), and the Baptistery. Tour Guide will show to those interested the location of the Basilica of San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel (where the Medici family was buried), and Basilica della Santa Croce (where Michelangelo and 15 other glorious Italian artists and thinkers were buried). Casual dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Florence.
June 21, Day 7: Tour of Venice: an amazing city built on water. Leave for Venice in the morning on our private bus. Estimated time of arrival is 12:00 noon. Visit St. Mark's plaza. Optional: Gondola ride and shopping. Long pants if you intend to go inside St. Mark's. Casual dress if you intend to go on a Gondola ride or spend time shopping and visiting the beautiful streets and bridges of Venice. Dinner and overnight in Venice.
June 22, Day 8: Drive to Vienna. Dinner and overnight in Vienna.
June 23, Day 9: A local guide waits to show you the sights of this exquisite city with a drive on the Ring Strasse to view great buildings such as the Opera House, the Maria Theresa Monument, museum buildings, the Parliament and City Hall. We will also see the former Imperial Palace Hofburg, a complex of buildings from the 13th century and home of the famous Spanish Riding School. Stroll the Stadtpark where you can see the famous gold statue of Strauss, the Kartnerstrasse, the pedestrian shopping street in the heart of the city that leads to the famous gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The afternoon is at leisure for you to relax or explore the city’s historic area. Dinner and overnight in Vienna.
June 24, Day 10: Drive to Salzburg, a city filled with the beautiful Mirabell Gardens and wondrous architecture. Walk through the Old Town of Salzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with medieval lanes and small shops with ironwork signs out front, the monumental Domplatz, and birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.There is a small museum containing family portraits, original manuscripts and some of the young genius’ early instruments. Enjoy a free afternoon in the awesome city of Salzburg with lots of beautiful cafes, shopping boutiques, and views of the city. Dinner and overnight in Salzburg.
June 25, Day 11: In the morning depart for the Eagle Nest Tour before continuing on to Munich. Check-in to the hotel. Visit the famous Hofbrauhaus. Dinner and overnight in Munich.
June 26, Day 12: A local guide waits to show you the former artists' quarter, Schwabing and go all along the impressive Ludwig and Prinzregenten Streets lined by magnificent buildings: Theatiner Church, Hall of Generals (Feldherrnhalle), House of Arts, Bavarian National Museum, and the Angel of Peace. The elegant Maximilian Street takes you back to the centre of town offering a view of the Bavarian Parliament, Deutsches Museum, Royal Palace and the Opera House, the medieval town gates and the colorful open air market the Viktualienmarkt. In the afternoon, visit Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Dinner and overnight in Munich.
June 27, Day 13: After breakfast we depart for Lucerne. On the way we stop for lunch in Liehtenstein – one of the smallest countries in the World after the Vatican. Visit Rapperswill on the way. Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Lucerne.
June 28, Day 14: Lucerne tour starts! Walking tour of the old town in the morning. See the Chapel Bridge with its Water Tower, the Lion Monument, and the Glacier Garden. After the walking tour relax on a boat ride around the lake. Free afternoon in which you might choose to visit Europe's largest transportation museum, Picasso Museum and IMAX film theater. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight in Lucerne.
June 29, Day 15: Fly back home.
